    {calvin_at_school.gif} My Philosophy of Teaching:
As a teacher, I believe it is my job, and vocation, to help, each child I interact with, to become productive and successful in the life that they are in the process of choosing. If necessary, I will do all I can to turn them away from choices that seem inappropriate or counter-productive and show them a better way to reach their goals. How to do that? I believe that first and foremost a teacher must love her students unconditionally, wherever place or level they are at. She must at the same time, set an example for them to follow in order to assist their moving beyond that point. Growth and change can be uncomfortable but they are necessary in order to learn positive life skills such as organization and work ethic, character education such as integrity and honesty, and content materials. I expect to be treated with respect by students and in return, I promise to treat them with the same. A two way relationship helps both the students and teacher to learn in a safe and open atmosphere. As a social Studies teacher,I am committed to helping students learn all they need to know to be creditable American citizens and maintain the freedom and democracy that is their birthright. I am especially interested in encouraging critical thinking skills as only an informed and knowledgeable citizenry can keep a democratic nation functioning.. As a teacher, I embrace Technology and believe that all students must become adept at it if they are to succeed in this brave, new world. I encourage parent participation and have found that parental support makes all the difference in a student's success. You are always the first, primary and end cause for all student achievement. Please feel free to email me at mailto:Ldesaulniers@thomas.k12.ga.us or quarryhome@gmail.com or call the school at 229-225-5050 if any concerns arise or if you need to talk about how your child is doing.

Wikis are a form of fairly new technology. Wikipedia is the best example that I am aware of. You should look at some US History wikis on Wiki space in order to see how they work.
{wiki_web_C.jpg} WikisWikis are somewhat new to
I have attached the US History syllabus on this page; please read it.
You are going to use the discussion board this year. You will be discussing with your classmates certain concepts and ideas about the USA. I have the capability to read/check/delete these so please read my attached Discussion Board Policy memo here. People who do not follow the policy will be banned from using the discussion board. Instead they will do writing assignments. I'd stick with the Board.
On the right side of this page is the Navigation bar. It is a list of links to the other pages in this wiki. For example, if you need to check on a classwork assignment that you did not finish in class for unit 1; click on Unit 1: Colonial era . This will take you to the appropriate page. Once on the page, use the table of contents to navigate to the specific area that you need to be at, such as Assignments.
Each unit page will contain the following: Performance standards for Georgia, Essential questions for the unit , key questions that you need to be able to answer at the end of the unit, assignments and anything else that applies to that unit.
Since all of the work that we will do this year is on this wiki, I will not be making additional paper copies for students who lose the copies that I give them. You will need to print out any missing work on your own time and at your own expense. You will not be printing out additional copies on my printer. I believe the Media Center charges 10 cents per sheet of paper to print.
{wiki.jpg} Power points from each unit are available. You will be able to use them for review. Students who miss class will be able to use this feature to keep up with work. Hospital Home Bound students and those who suffer the shameful experience of suspension will also be able to keep up by accessing this site at home.
