My Lineage:I come from a long line of peasants. Some from Norway and some from Sweden. I am a second generation American who grew up in New York on a farm and went to school in New York, Hawaii and Georgia. My husband is a retired chiropractor and he is of Russian, French and Jewish heritage. Basically , we are a chop suey mix that characterizes more and more Americans.I have lived in many places but the South has an appeal that is hard to deny. I love history, gardening, herbalism, swimming, the ocean, eating, cooking, Asian- Pacific cultures, my faith, reading, Pinterest, and writing very difficult question on finals. I am also noted for my witty style in writing behavior referrals. Thanks to the graciousness of God, I am a cancer survivor. Feel free to talk to me about what I learned during my battle with sarcoma.
My Philosophy of Teaching:
As a teacher, I believe it is my job, and vocation, to help, each child I interact with, to become productive and successful in the life that they are in the process of choosing. If necessary, I will do all I can to turn them away from choices that seem inappropriate or counter-productive and show them a better way to reach their goals. How to do that? I believe that first and foremost a teacher must love her students unconditionally, wherever place or level they are at. She must at the same time, set an example for them to follow in order to assist their moving beyond that point. Growth and change can be uncomfortable but they are necessary in order to learn positive life skills such as organization and work ethic, character education such as integrity and honesty, and content materials. I expect to be treated with respect by students and in return, I promise to treat them with the same. A two way relationship helps both the students and teacher to learn in a safe and open atmosphere. As a social Studies teacher,I am committed to helping students learn all they need to know to be creditable American citizens and maintain the freedom and democracy that is their birthright. I am especially interested in encouraging critical thinking skills as only an informed and knowledgeable citizenry can keep a democratic nation functioning.. As a teacher, I embrace Technology and believe that all students must become adept at it if they are to succeed in this brave, new world. I encourage parent participation and have found that parental support makes all the difference in a student's success. You are always the first, primary and end cause for all student achievement. Please feel free to email me at mailto:Ldesaulniers@thomas.k12.ga.us or quarryhome@gmail.com or call the school at 229-225-5050 if any concerns arise or if you need to talk about how your child is doing.
What if??????
My Class Rules:
1. Come prepared to learn. This is called intelligence. You can figure out the opposite.
2. Put aside the fear that you may try and fail for the time you are with me. This is called courage.
3. Learn something new every day. This is called perceptiveness.
4. Do not be so closed off that you can not make new relationships. This is called maturity.
5. Have faith that you can have a positive life if you work at it. This is called responsibility.
6. Do not sweat the small stuff. Sweat hard over the big stuff. This is called stress management.
7. Take a chance on me that I might be a decent person, fair, honest and doing my best for you and I will do the same for you. This is called respect.
8. No one is perfect, so we all need to practice forgiveness. Both giving it and asking for it. This is called reality.
9. BELIEVE THIS: The world is running over with lies that can prevent you from reaching your full potential. Do not believe the one that says you are just not bright enough, smart enough, bad to the bone, hopeless, a goon, worthless,a loser or a slacker. You were created with a function, a job to do and if you do not do it, the world is a lesser place. No one else can do what you were put on Earth to do. We all suffer if even one turns away from their gifts and does not fulfill their purpose. God has never made trash and he never will. This is called a philosophy to live by.
10. Enjoy what you do and have a purpose. Life is short. This is called joy.
What I looked like on my best day ever:
My BF's:
Some people have wondered why I know so much about history.I attribute it to my flare for being a know it all and because of who I hang out with. Being immensely old. does not hurt either. Here are some of my best friends:
Thanks for teaching me the correct way to curtsy, George. I can't wait to show the girls back home.
Tom, why did you change Locke's words from property to happiness when you wrote the Declaration? I could do with another acre or two.
Get out of Jail Free Pass:
At some time in all of our lives, we mess up. This is for that occasion. Say you lied to me and then admitted it, forgot an assignment, talked back and shocked yourself, did not come for a detention, broke something that mattered, believe you handed in an assignment but I do not have it. Use this card , only good for one event, to remind me that I too have messed up and was shown mercy. Only good for one time, After that we roll out the guillotine. Not good for cell phone usage, cheating, bullying or major offenses where someone gets hurt. Up to Miss D's discretion whether to accept the card or not. However, that rumor does keep cropping up about chocolate chip cookies and bribes even though I vigorously deny it at every turn.
Please give me another chance. I must have lost my mind.
